Odd News: US Federal Court rules Mutants are not Humans
In a move that is sure to be a blow to mutant rights activists, a US federal court has ruled that a series of ‘X-Men’ action figures are not to be classified as representing humans. This ruling is sure to set back the fight of noted mutant rights campaigners such as Professor Charles Xavier to have mutants recognised as being equal to humans in terms of rights and status.
Though mutants are indeed different to humans, in that mutated genes have given them abilities that most people cannot use, the fact is that they are still just mutations. A human who is born with an extra finger, albinoism, or a superfluous third nipple is still accorded the status of human, so why shouldn’t these mutants be? If we go down the road of classifying them as seperate from humans, I fear that we start to head down one of two paths.
The first is that of the terrorist group that calls itself the Brotherhood of Mutants, who wish to place the so called ‘Homo Superior’ mutants above Homo Sapiens, and rule over us.
On the other side of the coin we have the risk of some kind of segregation or registration becoming mandatory, leading to an atmosphere of intolerance and prejudice not seen on such a scale for many years.
I think we can all agree that neither of these outcomes is best for us, the mutants, or society as a whole. As such I urge you to write to your local government representatives, no matter where you live. The world needs to know that we won’t stand for humanity heading down this dark road, and that we, mutants and non-mutants alike, wish to face whatever future we have as a united whole.
